Reposting here due to the encouragement of my friends and family as well as fans... frankly i wouldnt be doing this if it wasnt for their support.
Well, I suppose I should start at the beginning in the simplest of terms. During the last year or so I’ve been making a name and reputation for myself in the comic/pop convention world; and in doing so…slowly built up to the point I now can pay my bills while doing my art. It’s truly an amazing feeling to have people walk away with a piece of something you have created…and sometimes even created just for them. At the end of the show, or even when you begin again…it makes you realize how blessed you are to have those people in your life. It flabbergasts you even.
But on to what happened:
I was returning from a show in Phoenix this past weekend on Monday afternoon. A bit worn out, I decided I would take a nap before unloading the vehicle…as I’ve done this before a few times during the last 2 years. Well, due to my exhaustion I slept longer than I anticipated and somewhere between 4pm yesterday (December 15th) and 1pm today (16th)...my car was broken into; and all of my convention equipment was stolen. The irony is, this is the last show of the year for me; but the next show starts in less than 3 weeks. Needless to say, I’m at a loss. (literally and emotionally…a bit numb). In addition to about 40 originals (some personal works and others previously commissioned) , along with recently commission work (sketchcovers and the like), 1,200 plus of prints of my own art, and my show gear such as my portfolios, my 13ft backdrop stand, my battery backups, and actual art tools from pencil holders, pens, and all of my grayscale markers. This of course also included my travel cases, suitcase, and oh yes…over 2/3 of personal wardrobe. I’m more devastated in the fact my originals are all gone…some of my better non-commissioned work of the last 3 years…along with all of my tools I have earned and acquired during the aforementioned periods. Tshirts and the like I can slowly replace…but it’s the matter of having all this potential art for shows gone; along with all the posters I had left.
Naturally I’ve contacted the local Austin Police and filed a report, they have had a crime unit come by and do fingerprints, as well as assigned a case number and by tomorrow hopefully a detective. In this instance it is fairly odd stuff they took…but a heavy chance none will be recovered (they suspect a lot of the posters and art will have been trashed
). Insurance has been called and I am beginning that process as well; but they’ve informed typically even with renter insurance it is difficult…and the maximum covered for personal property is about $250. So that process for my renter’s insurance will be arduous but hopefully doable…IE will they reimburse for it being in the car?
I posted on facebook earlier today….and the responses have been so encouraging as well as humbling. I personally want to emphasize that I originally couldn’t think of even remotely asking for help in a funding way, due to pride I suppose….but I realize a lot of this isn’t doable in my own hands. My friend set up a Gofundme; and I am humbly accepting their help. Thank you for reading; and naturally, for caring for me in this time, be it emotionally or financially. I am truly blessed to have this many friends, fans, and people I’ve met and not realized how I’ve impacted them.
I'm not one to do a lot posting in the sense of 'please help' or donates...but if you can...please share. That alone will help in ways you wouldn't believe. ( i especially know the holidays are tough...and would never have done this if not for the encouraging of my friends and family)www.gofundme.com/izbku0
